#IMWAYR: Odds and ends!

I didn't have the chance to read at all this week, because it was my first week back in grad school and there was so much happening. I'm hoping that tonight (Sunday night), I'll have the chance to crack open a book...and then we'll see if I can keep the momentum going throughout the week.

I did want to mention two things, though:

The Kidlit Lovers' Meetup!

The next Kidlit Lovers' Meetup is THIS Wednesday:

Wednesday, August 28, 2024

4 - 4:45 PM Pacific / 5 - 5:45 PM Mountain / 6 - 6:45 PM Central / 7 - 7:45 PM Eastern

RSVP here >>

As always, this is a chance for folks to meet other book bloggers and readers, and talk about books, blogging, reading, and more! I'll have discussion questions prepared to keep the conversation going. And it's designed to be very low-stress—even if you're as chronically introverted as I am, my goal is for you to still feel welcome and enjoy yourself!

You can RSVP for the meetup here, or learn more about the meetups here. Feel free to email me at completelyfullbookshelf [at] gmail [dot] com with any questions.

Bookish thoughts:

I keep meaning to share this on my blog, but two graphic novelists I adore have books coming out this April! One is the inimitable Raina Telgemeier, author of Smile and other beloved books, who has cowritten a graphic novel with Scott McCloud, author of Understanding Comics! It's called The Cartoonists Club, and it comes out on April 1, 2025.

The other book coming out is by Aliza Layne, who wrote the phenomenal Beetle & the Hollowbones. She has a sequel to that book, Beetle & the Chimera Carnival, coming on April 29, 2025!

So in eight months, I'm going to have quite the exciting books to read. I can't wait!!!

That's all for now—I hope your week is at least relatively calm, and see you soon! ✨✨

  1. I think you have a good excuse for not reading this week. See you at the meet-up on Wednesday.

  2. Hope your first week went well and you love your classes! that first week is always such a whirlwind. Looking forward to the meetup this week. I don't think I ever read Beetle & the Hollowbones! Will be looking for that at the library this week for sure. See, even on a week you don't finish a book, you still manage to convince me to read things!

  5. Thanks for organizing these meet-ups, Max, especially considering your busy schedule. First week back always felt to me like I’d stepped through a portal into an alternate reality. Just remember to be polite to any talking lions you may meet. :) Thanks for the new graphic novels heads-up. I’m off to the library!
